Potentials and limitations of cold-adapted hydrogen producing bacteria: A mini review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Low-temperature bacteria have potential to produce biohydrogen and are often considered a renewable energy generator for the future. However, presented poor hydrogen yield due slow metabolic rate prolonged lag phase caused by their restricted growth temperature limit. The ineffective search new biocatalysts from cold environments application of modification techniques almost jeopardize economic viability these strains in production research. This article examined genetic enzymatic adaptation potentials that led continuous expression novel biotechnological importance under following headings; cold-adapted bacteria, biohydrogen-producing strategies adapting stress low temperatures, performance production, challenges future prospect. Finding studying unique properties can improve efficiency as this area has not yet been extensively studied.

Reporting Key Features in Cold-Adapted Bacteria

It is well known that cold environments are predominant over the Earth and there are a great number of reports analyzing bacterial adaptations to cold. Most of these works are focused on characteristics traditionally involved in cold adaptation, such as the structural adjustment of enzymes, maintenance of membrane fluidity, expression of cold shock proteins and presence of compatible solutes. R...

Sialidases from gut bacteria: a mini-review.

Sialidases are a large group of enzymes, the majority of which catalyses the cleavage of terminal sialic acids from complex carbohydrates on glycoproteins or glycolipids. In the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, sialic acid residues are mostly found in terminal location of mucins via α2-3/6 glycosidic linkages. Many enteric commensal and pathogenic bacteria can utilize sialic acids as a nutrient sou...

Pretreatment to Increase Hydrogen Producing Bacteria (HPB)

This Chapter focuses on the investigation of an easy and efficacious method of obtaining a hydrogen-producing bacteria (HPB) culture to the detriment of hydrogen-consuming bacteria (HCB), such as methanogens and homoacetogenic bacteria. Although the use of mixed microflora is more viable from both the practical and biological points of view, important limitations arise from the co-activity of H...

Fasting and apoptosis: a mini review

Fasting, that is usually described as abstinence from all food and drink for a period of time, has been experienced for ages. Health, protest, religious expressions of devotion and purification are the most important reasons for fasting. Many changes occur in the body during fasting including metabolic, mineral, hormonal, immunological and psychological. Its use as one of the oldest therapies a...

Oral Bacteria and Bowel Diseases – Mini Review

Oral bacteria are considered to be associated with several systemic diseases. Recently, their association with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and colorectal carcinoma has attracted much attention. In this mini-review, the association of oral bacteria with these diseases is briefly summarized. Fusobacterium nucleatum is known as a periodontopathic bacterium, ...
